WooWoo GT

Off-grid, larger-capacity and low maintenance composting toilet system

Waterless, odourless, and completely off-grid. The WooWoo GT is your perfect larger capacity, low maintenance composting toilet solution!

The WooWoo GT 120 and 330 composting toilets are completely off-grid, requiring no water or electricity, yet provide a simple, odourless experience for the user and are easy to service and maintain for the owner.

Composting takes place within the container (known as batch composting) and the unique capillary base system ensures that optimum moisture levels are maintained by allowing excess leachate to drain out when there’s too much (either to a container or a soak-away pit), or by drawing it back up into the composting mass if it gets too dry.

The WooWoo GT Starter Packs come with two containers, so one can be composting whilst the other is in use. If you need to extend your capacity, you can purchase additional containers.

Unique capillary base - automatically regulates moisture levels

Using a simple, non-mechanical, natural technology, the capillary base ensures excess liquid is able to pass from the composting mass above through to the lower base. This ensures the composting mass doesn’t get too saturated, which could stop the composting process remaining anaerobic.

Likewise, if the mass gets too dry, liquid is drawn back up to maintain optimum conditions.

Excess leachate can flow out of the composting base and into a soakaway (where possible), container or into a GeoTrap Nutrient filter.

However, up to 95% of the liquid entering the system is either evaporated or used in the composting process!

So easy to use!

Because it isn’t based around a urine separator, the user can’t do anything wrong – it’s child friendly, female friendly, and men can stand up to urinate!

Wood shavings can either be added after every solid use (no need after a wee), or the operator can add shavings every week, making it even easier for the user.

The simple nature, lack of moving parts and ease of use makes the WooWoo GT ideal for forest schools, allotments and glamping/camping sites – feedback from our customers has been so positive!

And, easy to maintain too!

The WooWoo GT and WooWoo GT LUX starter packs comes with two containers (either 120-litre or 330-litre) – when the first one is full, pull it out from the building and swap with the empty one.  The full one is set aside to complete its composting journey.

When the first one has sat for long enough, you can empty the safe, odour-free compost and use it around trees and bushes, cycling nutrients back into the earth.

Odour-free

Almost from the first use, the composting process will start, as our wonderful and naturally-occuring bacteria friends will be busy converting the contents into a safe, sweet smelling, beneficial compost. A passive (non-electric) ventilation system draws any remaining odours up and away, aided by the free-spinning wind vent.

An optional electric ventilation system (230v or 12v) can be used where the WooWoo GT is placed inside a dwelling as opposed to a well-ventilated shed or outbuilding.

Porcelain pedestal option for 'at home' luxury

The WooWoo GT LUX package comes with a beautiful porcelain drop-through pedestal for the ultimate in ‘home comfort’.

The GT LUX will require a slighly higher floor level to give enough room for the composting container, directly below.

We recommend choosing the electric ventilation fan to ensure a totally odour-free experience together with the familiarity of a porcelain toilet pedestal.

Installation choices

As a batch composting system, the WooWoo GT containers are relatively tall and may require a custom made structure around them, or careful location if installing in a dwelling.

All systems come with an adjustable chute that connects the container underneath with the seat or pedestal above.

You can download FREE plans if you want to make your own cabin to fit the GT containers, or we have a range compact, single, accessible and double cabins for you to choose.

It's extendible too

The WooWoo GT and GT LUX starter packs comes with two containers, so when one is full, it’s moved out of use and the new one brought into play. The full container can now continue to compost for six months or more, so when it comes to emptying, you’re only handling safe, odour-free, finished compost.

The GT 120 has a capacity of around 200 solids uses per container, whilst each of the GT 330 containers can handle around 800 solids uses.

It’s possible to increase the overall capacity by buying more containers.

Compact, single, double or accessible building options

If you’re keen to get up and running quickly, or don’t want to make your own cabin, we have plenty of options for you.

From the new WooWoo Loo Compact  cabin that comes with the WooWoo GT 120 starter pack, to the WooWoo Loo Standard, Double and Accessible which fit either the 120 or the 330 starter packs.

All the WooWoo Loo GT cabins are flat packed and delivered on a pallet as a kerbside delivery.

Genuinely Kind to the Environment

Depending on type of use and ambient temperature, a small amount of liquid ‘leachate’ may be discharged from the WooWoo GT system. This comes out of a flexible pipe at the base and can be run into a small soak-away pit, or where this isn’t possible, it can be captured in a small container that will need checking on a weekly basis, or it can be run through our GeoTrap Nutrient Filter.

The only other thing that comes out is compost! Because the ‘ingredients’ are added in a controlled way (nitrogen from the human waste, carbon from the cover material) with air and moisture all balanced, you have the perfect environment for composting to take place.

Completely Off-Grid

The WooWoo GT needs no water or electricity*, so it’s truly off-grid, waterless and can be installed almost anywhere.

With it’s simple but clever capillary base design and free-spinning wind vent, the WooWoo GT system harnesses the power of nature to create a low-maintenance, highly efficient batch composting toilet system.

* Installations within a dwelling (ie more air-tight buildings) should be installed with an electric ventilation fan.

WooWoo GT

Not if you are using the wind-powered vent on the WooWoo GT or GT LUX. The pipe must be straight otherwise the wind vent won’t be able to move the required volume of air.

If you must have bends or a very long vent pipe run, then you should use an electric duct fan to ensure sufficient airflow.

Yes you can. The supplied seat is made from a form of polystyrene and provides a very warm experience when the temperature is cold! However, we recognise that some people will prefer the look and durability of a more standard toilet seat. Try to choose a model that doesn’t have too many gaps between the seat and lid. You’ll also have to fit the ‘chute’ from the top (rather than it sliding in underneath). We can give you further advice on this subject if needed.

There are a few different ways you can use the WooWoo GT and GT LUX, depending on where it’s installed, the user experience you want to provide and the amount of maintenance you are prepared to do.

If someone has just had a wee, there’s no need to add anything – most of the urine gets used in the composting process or is evaporated – anything remaining liquids may be discharged as a leachate and captured in a small container.

You can choose to either ask the user to add a scoop of wood shavings after each ‘solids’ visit, or you (as the owner/operator) can add an equivalent amount of shavings at the end of each week. This makes the user experience really simple and removes any guesswork placed upon the user in terms of how much to add.

Due to the nature and size of the GT composting containers, the WooWoo GT 120 and GT330 require space under the floor of the building or to have the elevated ‘seat’ built around the container. As most buildings in the UK and Ireland don’t have enough underfloor space, you may have to create a special building or modify your existing one. We offer free plans on the website that you can download, or we have flat-packed, self-assembly cabins (compact, single, double and accessible) that can be delivered to your site.

The WooWoo GT LUX uses a porcelain pedestal which is floor-mounted. Again, this needs suitable space directly underneath the pedestal for the WooWoo GT composting container.

Sure thing. Head on over to our blog, where we have a blog post giving some excellent WooWoo GT tips. Remember, if you’re not sure about any aspect, please get in touch – there are no stupid questions!

The WooWoo GT and GT LUX both have a tough, dark-green, plastic ‘chute’ that enables all ‘waste’ to travel down and into the batch composting container. The GT LUX has a ‘drop-through’ ceramic toilet pedestal over the chute. As with any toilet, debris can stick the sides, so it’ll need to be cleaned to maintain a smart and hygienic appearance. We suggest using a small amount of water and a long-handled toilet brush. Some water entering the WooWoo GT container will be absolutely fine – don’t use any harsh chemicals as these may stop or slow down the composting process.

Assembly time depends on the ground conditions (and any preparation required), the number of people you have to help and their overall skill levels. The GT cabins are more akin to garden rooms than sheds so should be considered ‘moderately’ difficult to assemble. We work on the principle that assembly requires two full days of two skilled people, assuming the ground is level and compacted. The double cabin may require an extra day. Painting or treating the woodwork is not included.

Our latest WooWoo GT Compact cabin is designed for rapid self-assembly and should take no more than a couple of hours, excluding any ground work needed.

We’re happy to pass your details on to our recommended installers if you would like a quotation for someone to do this for you.

Typically, the electric fan will only be required on the WooWoo GT LUX, and specifically when it’s installed within the fabric of the building.

We offer two types of fan – a mains-only electric duct fan and a lower-powered mains/12v variable speed fan. The fan connects directly to the 110mm vent pipework creating airflow through the GT toilet container, up and out through the vent pipe. Fans may require a qualified electrician to install.

On the mains-only fan, there are three power settingswhich consume 22, 24, and 33 watts respectively For a single container (120 or 330-litre) the lowest setting is typically used. Where the pipe run is not straight, or where you want to vent multiple containers with one fan, the middle or high setting may be required.

The mains/12v fan consumes 4 watts and comes with a variable speed control (when connected to mains power). We suggest starting with a medium setting and adjust as required.

Because of the variability of use, people and location, it’s impossible to give ‘hard and fast’ figures, but as a guide, we would expect the GT 120 container to provide the capacity of 200 – 220 ‘solid’ uses. The GT 330 container has a capacity of around 800 ‘solid’ uses.

The realised capacity depends on many factors, such as the ambient temperature, frequency and density of use (once composting kicks in, the mass will reduce in size, providing additional capacity), the amount of toilet paper used, and the amount of wood shavings or sawdust added. The urine use is unlimited as urine is both used in the composting process and evaporated, with any excess being passed out as leachate.

More leachate will be discharged in winter/cooler temperatures as the composting process will slow down.

As a general rule, if the WooWoo GT or GT LUX is installed within a dwelling (ie the walls etc are reasonably air-tight), then we’d always recommend the electric fan over the wind fan for total odour removal – just in case you have a prolonged period of low or no wind. If the WooWoo GT or GT LUX is installed in a ‘shed’ or similar stand-alone building, then the wind-powered vent should be sufficient.

The ventilation pipe and fan is just one aspect of the odour control system in the WooWoo GT and GT LUX. The advantage of the wind-powered fan is that the toilet can be completely off-grid, requiring no electricity, water or sewage connections.

It’s not a problem. Just use the WooWoo GT as you would any toilet. Menstrual blood adds to the variety of ingredients that will go on to create a fantastic compost. Sanitary products should ideally go in a separate bin that the owner/operator provides.

The WooWoo GT and GT LUX are batch composting toilets. This means that composting takes place within the container. To make great compost in the most efficient way, you need a source of carbon to work with the nitrogen that’s in the faeces and urine. Wood shavings or sawdust are an ideal, readily available and inexpensive carbon-based material for this job.

As well as acting as a carbon source to make the perfect compost blend, shavings or sawdust will also help suppress odours (although the ventilation system will be doing most of the work for that aspect) and act as a visual cover.
