Genuine Separett roll of Compostable Bags made exclusively for the Separett Tiny & Separett Weekend Prime. Approximately 14.5-litre capacity. Choose from a roll of 10 or 20 bags.
They are 100% biodegradable, and 100% compostable, made only from corn starch.
Store in a cool, dry place, out of direct light.
Compostable bags need to fulfil two opposing roles – 1) is to stay intact for as long as possible whilst they are being used and 2) is to compost/biodegrade as quickly as possible in the compost heap. Every bag is a compromise to some degree as they can’t do both of these tasks well.
The Separett bags are stronger (thicker) than ‘regular’ compostable bags and are designed to last longer and retain their integrity ‘in situ’. Regular compostable bags are generally considered to last a maximum of 7 days, whilst the Separett ones could last up to 30 days.
There are a number of factors that can affect how long they last (ie hold their integrity) – generally moisture and heat have a negative impact.
If the contents are quite wet, then it might be worthwhile trying to add something really absorbent – once you line the container with a bag, add a couple of 2cm of wood-based cat litter pellets to the base – these will swell up and turn to sawdust on contact with liquids and this might help by keeping the bag drier.
The bags and contents can be composted at home, but may need extended composting time (if you don’t hot compost) to break down completely. Alternatively, remnants can be placed back in the compost pile for a second round of composting.
If you place the tied up bags with the contents in a compost bin, then everything will take a long time to break down. The contents (faeces and loo paper) are effectively sealed in the bag and unless you have a very good (Hot) compost bin, it will take ages for the bag to break up enough so that the contents can start breaking down.
You can do the following, depending on how comfortable you are with each: 1) empty the contents of the bag into your compost bin and dispose of the bag in your regular rubbish, 2) make sure the bag is untied so the air, bugs and other things that do the composting, have access to the content inside your compost bin, or 3) drop the bag in the compost bin and then poke it with a stick or garden fork to piece it in several places to let the air in.
A little expensive, but product is very good
Seem to do the job, not sure how long they take to break down as only just started using.
Brilliant!
Seem to be a good product. Time will tell how well they break down in the compost heap.
Strong and fulfils their purpose
Slightly to dear
Great product reordered. Issue was DPD delivery driver who claimed we weren’t in when we were and our front door was open. We couldn’t get it until next day as it was taken to a pick up point 2 miles away. Finding DPD highly unreliable at the moment.
Could be a little thicker
Thanks so much for your review. The thickness is a dilemma – they need to be thick enough to last in situ, but also people want them to compost as quickly as possibly. Thicker bags will take much longer to break down.
Unsure of the strength of these yet as I have not emptied the toilet yet.
Great service, good product and fast delivery. What more can you want.
Ordered items arrived with 3 days of ordering them 😁
Does the jobby 😉
