The Air Head Tejo composting toilet is the latest release from Air Head.

Description

The Air Head Tejo (pronounced “tay-oh”) is the latest innovation from the creators of the Air Head composting toilet.
Featuring a unique, large bowl and a class-leading urine diversion system unlike anything else on the market. The Tejo does not have a built-in urine container, so the urine must go to a separate external tank, drain or soak-away. The new Air Head Tejo is perfect for larger motorhomes, caravan or off-grid dwellings that have a separate ‘black’ tank or external soakaway pit.
  • Attractive ‘household’ design
  • Large bowl with unique and superior urine separator
  • Urine separation makes management of the ‘waste’ products easier
  • Water tight seals to seat and solids cover flap enable use in wet rooms
  • Large lever on side to open solids cover flap
  • Solids mixing system aerates contents and reduces odours
  • Large capacity solids container means less frequent emptying and maintenance
  • Efficient 12v ventilation fan for odours and excess moisture
  • Odour trap built into the urine drain
  • Durable construction – base and bowl made from roto-moulded plastic. Metal fittings are marine-grade stainless steel

Air Head Tejo internal features

Installing the Air Head Tejo

Prior to installation, you’ll need to decide where to run the vent pipe and fan housing. The straight or right-angled fan housing is external to the toilet and usually fits onto the wall, floor or ceiling at the point where the vent will go outside. You’ll need to provide a 12v supply at that place, to power the fan. Note that the external vent cover (scoop vents etc) are not provided. You’ll also need to consider where to run the urine pipe (19mm internal diameter – not supplied) to enable the urine to flow to your external tank or soak-away pit.

The base of the Tejo is secured using the supplied brackets. These enable the base to be removed quickly for emptying. The flexible vent pipe is connected to one of the holes on the rear of the toilet (the other is an air inlet and has an insect mesh installed) and this leads to the fan housing. Typically, the straight fan housing is used to exit the vent through the floor or roof, and the angled housing is used to go through the side wall.

Getting it ready for use

The fan should be on when there is anything in the solids container. Rehydrate a coir ‘brick’ with the least amount of warm water to create a crumbly dry ‘compost’ and place this in the base of the Air Head Tejo. Fit the top in place and secure. It’s now ready for use!

Using the Air Head Tejo

Urine visits: Female users should sit down fully. Leave the solids cover closed – any urine that splashes onto the cover will drain into the urine outlet. Male users can sit or stand – if standing, aim away from the solids cover, although the silicone seal will stop urine entering the solids area and any splashes will drain into the urine outlet.

Otherwise, open the solids cover when you’re sat down and do your business. Toilet paper can be placed into the solids chamber before you close it. Using a spray bottle with a 50:50 white vinegar and water mix, spritz the bowl to micro flush any urine splashes – the vinegar will also help neutralise the effects of urine calcification over time. Slowly and gently turn the mixing handle on the side, which will break up the contents, aerate them and coat everything in the coir – this reduces the odours and ensures good bacteria can start to work breaking everything down.

Emptying and maintenance

When the Tejo base is full (maximum capacity is around 50-60 solid visits, depending on your diet and the amount of toilet paper), it’s time to empty it. Release the four locking nuts that secure the top onto the base and remove the top, setting it aside (you may need to remove the vent pipe depending on your installation and space available). Put the solids container lid in place and loosen the thumbscrews that hold the base in place. You can now take the base outside for emptying.

The contents will have started to break down, but are not composted (unless they’ve been in there a while). Transfer to a compost bin or other composting system to complete the composting journey. If you’re unable to compost, the contents should be disposed of in an appropriate manner.

Delivery to a non-UK address? No Problem!

Since Brexit, the process of selling to non-UK customers (including those in Ireland!) has changed but we don’t want our customers to pay more so we are offering to refund your customs duties and admin fees.

VAT generally evens itself out:
We reduce our price when selling to non-UK countries. This is because we don’t charge UK VAT (20%) for customers outside the UK.

The VAT rate is typically similar in other countries, around 20%, so the saving made by not paying UK VAT is generally offset by paying local VAT upon import.

Customs duty/admin fees:
Keep your receipt for customs or admin fees and send it to us. We’ll refund these extra fees back to your account.

In short…
Non-UK customers shouldn’t have to pay more for their products than our UK customers.
