The Separett Family is a waterless, 100% mains electric incinerating toilet designed for use in domestic bathrooms or toilet cubicles. It has a user-friendly display to monitor the status. The display will indicate when it’s time to empty the ash pan, clean the ash pan or clean the vent pipe.
The Family is ideal for domestic installation either as the main toilet or as an ancillary toilet (for example in a garden room or garden office). We don’t recommend that incinerating toilets are used in commercial environments or for use by the public. Expected use should be a maximum of four visits per hour.
It needs suitable ventilation and Power (230V – around 10A) to function and has the capacity to handle toilet needs of a typical family (4 to 5 persons). It is used when needed, even if someone else has just visited the toilet, as it keeps track of how many uses and adapts the incinerating length to meet the demand.
When no programme is running, and the toilet is in standby mode, the fan constantly operates at low speed. When an incineration programme is running, the fan draws air through the incineration chamber to constantly add oxygen to the incineration process. This also enables hot air and smoke to flow through the pipe and out of the chamber.
IMPORTANT! As long as the toilet is attached to the ventilation pipe, the power should be turned on. When the fan spins, it prevents moist air from entering the toilet. If the power is turned off, the toilet should be disconnected from the pipe and the pipe plugged to prevent moist air from entering.
Due to the nature of the heating element and overall power consumption, Cindi is not suitable for installation in moving vehicles (RV’s, motor homes and boats).
The Separett Family is a safe toilet to use. It has a wide array of built-in safety systems that monitors the temperature in the ash pan, inside the toilet as well as the ventilation temperature. It is also fitted with stand-alone overheating protection that works outside the regular firmware. If the temperature in any location gets higher the normal the incinerating process automatically shuts down and the display informs you of this. The Family is fitted with a magnetic sensor that pauses the incinerating process when you use the toilet, only to resume when you close the lid after use. It is also fitted with overvoltage protection to make sure the PCB and cabling are protected during a power surge.
Before you use the Separett Family, place an incinerating bag in the bowl, the bag protects the bowl from faeces and limits the need for cleaning. When you’re done, use the flush lever to open the hatch to the incineration chamber, which allows the bag and contents to drop inside. Now start the incinerating process by selecting a program (large or small). Even if the toilet already is in an ongoing incineration process, it is extremely important to both flush and to choose a program. Always start an incineration program after your visit.
Emptying the Ash Pan
When the ash pan is full (after around 50 toilet visits), the message ASH PAN EMPTIED? is shown on the display. You should empty the ash pan when the toilet is cool. Undo the clips on either side of the front base to remove the vanity panel and rotate the ash pan handle towards the front – the ash pan can now be slid forward and emptied. Replace the ash pan by sliding it in with the handle to the front, then rotate the pan to the right and replace the vanity panel.
Maintenance and Cleaning
In addition to normal cleaning with a damp cloth and eco-friendly cleaners, the Separett Family will notify you of other maintenance requirements, which typically are as follows:
- After 50 uses the ash pan will need to be emptied
- After 100 uses the Separett Family will need an ashpan clean (placing water in the ashpan and choosing an incineration program – the steam will clear urine salt deposits)
- After 100 uses the Separett Family should be pulled forward from the vent pipe and the pipe cleaned with the supplied cleaning brush to remove any soot deposits
- After approx. one year of full-time use or two years of part-time use, the Separett Family will need a service which includes internal cleaning, checking of key components and replacement of the heating element.
For ease of service and cleaning, the Separett Family should not be fixed to the floor or wall.
For long and trouble-free service, please observe the following requirements:
- Always install the vent pipe vertically, and according to the manufacturer’s instructions
- Always ensure sufficient fresh air is available (either by using the air inlet with the optional ventilation kit or by following the manufacturers’ guidelines on airflow)
- Always use a paper bowl liner, regardless of what you’ve done
- Always ‘flush’ immediately after each use
- Always press the incinerate button when you’ve ‘flushed’ the toilet, even if someone else has just used the toilet
- Observe the service indication (the heating element will need replacing after 1-3 years, depending on the amount of use).
Servicing & warranty
Depending on the type and intensity of use, the Separett Family will need a full service every 1-3 years (a service message will appear on the display to alert you that it will need a service in the near future). The full service is carried out by ourselves (or a Separett authorised service partner, or a person competent in electrical goods servicing/repairs) and we would need to toilet returned to us on a pallet. We would arrange the collection of the toilet, the service and the return. The typical cost for this is around £390 including collection and return shipping costs.
During the service, the toilet is inspected and cleaned thoroughly. The electric heating element is replaced, the thermal sensor checked and cleaned, the catalyst is checked and cleaned, and the drop hatch is cleaned and adjusted if necessary.
Warranty is 1 year on the heating element, 2 years on ash pan and thermister and 3 years on other components. When used commercially, a 1 year warranty applies.
The following is included with the toilet: Long bend Ø110 mm 90°, cleaning brush, dimensional drawing, 100 in no. bags, windcowl, chisel, and O-ring.
In addition to the toilet, you will also need the VENTILATION KIT.

Delivery Information concerning your Separett Family toilet
Your Separett Family incinerating toilet will be delivered on a pallet and has a total weight of around 40kg. Most deliveries will be made by a specialist haulier who will deliver ‘kerbside’ (i.e. they can offload the pallet from the truck onto the pavement near your property). We cannot guarantee that the truck is equipped with a pallet lift and if it is, the path to your property must be smooth concrete or tarmac for it to be safe to use. Please ensure that you have sufficient people on hand to move the Cindi into your property – usually, two people can move the box once it’s off the pallet.
Pallet delivery to mainland UK (excluding certain Scottish Highland & Island destinations) is FREE OF CHARGE, however, if your area falls outside of the free delivery area, we will contact you to discuss any additional delivery charges.
